An Idiot's Guide to Economic
Yesterday I received an email touting the eleven most expensive catastrophes in history.
It was a contrived list of catastrophes illustrated with real and phony pictures that included the sinking of the Titanic, Exxon Valdez, the Challenger Explosion and others. It concluded with number one being: the 2008 Presidential Election - illustrated with a picture of President Obama and captioned “$800 Billion in the first two months.”
This sordid email was sent by an individual who sent a letter to the editor during the campaign suggesting that Obama was the Anti-Christ.
This counterproductive political sleaze is not limited to email or the internet. There are those who do not want the stimulus efforts to be successful. One boss was heard bragging that he imposed a media black out during the inauguration, refusing to listen or allow his employees to listen to the inaugural address, although it was a historical event. In the hallways of my church I hear sarcastic remarks like “Obama is going to fix everything” as well as other supercilious statements.
A dignified Republican Senator, Richard Shelby of Alabama has made public remarks questioning the Presidents citizenship saying, “Well his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven’t seen any birth certificate.”
GOP leader and Kentucky senior Sen. Mitch McConnell, a stanch supporter to the war in Iraq and Bush insider, presents to an unyielding hostility toward any Obama legislation. This is obviously based on ideology, not what’s good for America.
There is an unbelievable level and type of criticism from those who presided over an increase in the national debt of six trillion dollars, left a record $1.2 trillion budget deficit, initiated a war based on non-existent weapons of mass destruction and wrecked our country’s reputation in the world community. Seems like they would at least listen to an incoming president who comes with a mandate for change.
I pray that these disciples of Karl Rove will stop the trash talk and refrain from trafficking in their internet sleaze long enough to allow our country to recover.
